Martin Anioka (R), PostBank Chief Risk Officer hands over a dummy cheque of UGX 6 million to Dison Okumu- ICGU CEO (L), and Geoffrey Kihuguru (C), President of ICGU.

PostBank has committed UGX 6 million as sponsorship to the upcoming 3rd Corporate Governance Awards set to take place on 18th October, 2024 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The awards organised by the Institute of Corporate Governance Uganda (ICGU) will be held under the theme; ‘Recognizing Resilience and Sustainable Impact’.

PostBank Chief Risk Officer, Martin Anioka while at the launch of the awards said, the the upcoming awards present an opportune moment for PostBank and other organisations to do a self-check or an audit of whether they’re on the right track in upholding and practicing the ideal principles of corporate governance, and how they impact positively at different levels of operation.

“I want to appreciate the leadership, plus the entire team at the Institute of Corporate Governance Uganda for the back-end preparations that have led to this day and all the activities put in place to ensure that the Award event slated for next month in October, is a success,” Mr Anioka said.

In line with PostBank’s tagline, Grow Prosper that aligns with the purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans, Anioka said, the Bank is committed to offer support to its people to thrive in all that they do.

“This requires us to put structures in place that will enable us to achieve this goal, hence, we pledge to continue to collaborate with stakeholders like the Institute of Corporate Governance who champion such initiatives that also help us keep in check while we Grow and Prosper our people,” Anioka said.

Borrowing from a quote on governance from Mark Goyder, Director of Tomorrow’s Company, which says, “Governance and leadership are the yin and the yang of successful organizations. If you have leadership without governance, you put the organization at risk. If you have governance without leadership, you risk atrophy, bureaucracy and indifference.”

Anioka explained that the quote signifies the importance of governance in any institution, as it guides and informs decision making, while highlighting the company’s responsibility and commitment to its various stakeholders including its staff.

“At PostBank Uganda, we have not only practiced sustainable governance, but we have put structures and processes in place that enable us to serve the various stakeholders who comprise internal and external representatives,” he summed up.
