Christmas has come early for Victoria University (VU) as the National Council for Higher Education has approved the granting of a charter to the institution .
A charter is issued by a relevant authority to create or recognize a university. It is the grant of authority or rights, stating that the granter formally recognizes the prerogative of the recipient to exercise the rights specified.

The acquiring of the charter means Victoria University is now comparable to public universities with the government of Uganda recognition and certification.
In a tweet, Dr Lawrence Muganga, The VU Vice Chancellor said: “At last! Victoria University – Uganda’s only Experiential Learning educ-driven University is now SET to receive its CHARTER from H.E President @KagutaMuseveni through First Lady & Hon. Minister of Educ & Sports @JanetMuseveni. Great. THANK U to NHCE for the tremendous word done.”
The Ugandan Constitution defines a Chartered Institution as: A chartered University according to Section 103 (a) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended, means such a university is comparable to a Public University.
