President Yoweri Museveni has come out and apologized to Ugandans, Kenyans, and all East Africans over the errant tweets of First son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Muhoozi who was on Tuesday promoted to a full General and also relieved of his duties as Lands Army Commander has lately been in a verbal fight with Kenyans through Twitter.
In some of his tweets, the First Son sounded threatening the neighbors that “his” army was too powerful to capture their capital Nairobi in the shortest possible time if provoked.
This has drawn the President’s attention noting, “I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of Land Forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country. It is not correct for Public officers, be the civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way, in the internal affairs of brother countries.”
Museveni, in a statement he issued on Wednesday says that the only available legitimate forum is the Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union or confidential interactions among Uganda or EAC and AU fora –not public comments since his son “is a passionate Pan-Africanist.”
He, however, says that despite the mistake, he promoted him to a full General because of his positive contributions.
“There are, however, many other positive contributions the General has made and can still make. This is a time-tested formula –discourage the negative and encourage the positive. Very sorry, ndugu zetu Wakenya. Also sorry to the Ugandans who could have been annoyed by one of their officials meddling in the affairs of brother Kenya.”
