Following the recent hand over of the MTN Kampala Marathon 2013 proceeds worth Ushs 400 million to the Water Aid Uganda Project, residents of  Nakapiripirit district in the Karamoja sub region can now enjoy safe and clean water.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) poverty map and primary data, more than 80 percent of the people in the district live below the poverty line attributed to frequent drought and insecurity. The two beneficiary sub counties Moruita and Nabilatuk were selected due to the fact that they have the least water coverage of 34 percent and 46 percent respectively.

Speaking in a press release seen by the CEO Magazine, Anne Lukune the Nakapiripirit Water Aid Uganda Project Coordinator said, “18 boreholes have been constructed across the two sub-counties and most of the work has been done. In addition, eighteen water committees have been formed in coordination with the District Local government officials to be trained on best hygiene and sanitation practices.
