Bob Bonabo Munene, is a development economist and currently is a Principal Economist, at the Ministry of Finance (Banking Sector)

Bob Bonabo Munene, a development economist has been appointed as a non-executive director to the Uganda Development Bank Board, CEO East Africa has learnt.

UDB is the country’s national Development Finance Institution (DFI) with a mandate to accelerate socio-economic development in Uganda through sustainable financial interventions. The Bank is mandated to support projects within the private sector that demonstrate the potential to deliver high socio-economic value, in terms of job creation, improved production output, tax contribution and foreign exchange generation, among other outcomes.

Mr. Bonabo, according to our sources, is an economist with more than 14 years of experience in development economics, finance, and project management at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Mr. Bonabo’s extensive experience in development economics, finance, and project management will come in handy at a time UDB is seeking to deepen its impact.

“Some of his key strengths include strong economic analysis and project appraisals. He is also well-skilled in economic research, policy formulation, and strategic leadership. He also has requisite board experience,” said the source.

Amongst other board directorships, he is a Board Member of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services.  2019 to date.

He currently is a Principal Economist, at the Ministry of Finance (Banking Sector). Prior to that, he was a Senior Economist at the Ministry between 2015 and 2018 and Economist, between 2009 and 2015.

Bonabo holds a BSc in Statistics and Applied Economics, from Makerere University, as well as an MSc. in Development Economics, from Uganda Martyrs University. He also holds an MBA (Public Finance and Project Management) from the East and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI). He is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at the University of Western Cape, focusing on examining the sustainability of family-owned businesses in Uganda.

He has also completed training in Public Administration and Resource Mobilization, Financing Development (Navigating the landscape of financial instruments and mechanisms) as well as Public Finance and Project Management, at the International Law Institute (Washington) and  Macroeconomic Modelling at the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI).
