Emmanuel Kiberu, FCCA, CPA, MBA, new EcoBank Uganda new Chief Financial Officer (CFO),

Ecobank Uganda has appointed Emmanuel Kiberu as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), marking a significant addition to the bank’s executive leadership team. A qualified Chartered Accountant with over a decade of experience spanning finance management, audit, and business performance analysis, Kiberu brings a solid blend of technical expertise and strategic acumen to the pan-African banking group.

Before joining Ecobank, Kiberu served with Absa Group for nearly seven years, where he rose through the ranks to become Head of Business Performance and Analytics. In that capacity, he oversaw enterprise-wide cost management, enforced budget discipline, and ensured compliance with regulatory and financial reporting standards. Prior to that, he held the position of Financial Controller, where he managed the preparation of annual financial statements, facilitated audits, strengthened internal controls, and led a team of finance professionals in ensuring accuracy and timeliness in reporting to Absa Group.

Kiberu’s tenure at Absa was marked by his commitment to financial efficiency, sound governance, and data-driven decision-making. His experience also includes close collaboration with regulators and tax authorities, alongside responsibility for tax planning, credit and capital planning, and group reporting.

Before entering the banking sector, Kiberu spent several years at KPMG East Africa, where he progressed from Audit Associate to Audit Senior. During his time there, he was involved in the planning and execution of financial audits for diverse clients, offering insights into corporate governance, financial reporting, and risk management. He also served as a Learning and Development Trainer, accredited under the KPMG Africa Facilitators Accreditation Programme (AFAP), demonstrating his passion for mentoring and professional development.

Kiberu’s background in external audit and advisory gives him a broad understanding of financial systems and regulatory frameworks — a foundation that continues to shape his approach to corporate finance and business performance.

A Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Kiberu’s credentials underscore his technical competence and commitment to professional standards. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics from Makerere University.

To complement his executive experience, he also completed the Transition to Business Leadership Program at IMD Business School in 2024 — a program designed for senior leaders transitioning into enterprise-wide strategic roles.

Kiberu’s career in finance began with internships at dfcu Bank and Citibank Uganda, where he gained early exposure to corporate and treasury operations. Beyond the corporate world, he served on the Board of Advisors of AIESEC Uganda Christian University, mentoring student leaders and guiding the organization’s strategic direction.

This combination of technical training, leadership experience, and commitment to mentoring aligns well with Ecobank’s mission to drive sustainable growth and develop future-ready leaders within Africa’s financial ecosystem.
