LEAD is a not-for-profit organization which was formed after realising that many East African companies in need of directors did not have a consolidated reference point for selection and training of active and potential directors and tended to rely on personal references and “club” like structures to make board level appointments. Its mission is the equipping of boards, by ensuring a deliberate improvement in diversity on East African corporate boards. One of the interventions that LEAD has undertake is the development of a targeted database of ready-to-lead corporate executives with diverse experience, skills, expertise and diversity. PROSCOVIA NABBANJA

Proscovia is the Chief Executive of Uganda National Oil Company. She is a highly experienced executive leader in the petroleum industry, with more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with deep knowledge of especially exploration and development. She also has proven experience in strategic planning and project execution as well as a skilled negotiator and team player with the ability to create strategic business partnerships and build relations with government agencies.

Before becoming the UNOC Chief Executive Officer, she formerly served as a Principal Geologist in the Petroleum Exploration & Production Department under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. She headed the Technical Division and was at the forefront of reviews of technical proposals especially field development plans and petroleum reservoir reports. She also headed the estimation and reporting of the oil resources and reserves in the country, field operations monitoring and management of petroleum data.

She has sat on several inter-ministerial committees and also worked on several Donor funded programs such as Oil for Development and USAID.

Proscovia holds a BSc (Chemistry, Geology) -MUK, MSC Petroleum Geoscience- Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, DIC, Dip Petroleum Management and Operations, MBA-Imperial College Business School.


TINKAMANYIRE JOSEPH

Joseph is a management consultant with over 30 years in various senior management positions and industries.

He has a track record of effective and strategic management and organizational growth, proven team building and general management experience in operationally challenging environments.

Over the years Joseph has attained skills to study social behaviour, business planning and human resource management. He has held various positions over time which include General Manager- Sales and Marketing at Toyota Uganda; Sales and Marketing Manager- Lonrho Motors Uganda Limited.

He has provided strategic, substantial, and pragmatic advisory services to private and public businesses and organizations through TJ Business Links where he is the Managing Consultant.

DONALD WAIGUMBULIZI

Donald Waigumbulizi is the Country Manager of Ericsson Uganda.

He is an experienced business leader with multi-country experience handling global customer accounts across Africa and the Middle East.

Has over 15 years of experience in the ICT/Telecommunications industry in leadership, ICT Operations, project and program management and technical expertise in wireless and fixed communication technologies as well as mobile financial services.

Donald oversees the Digital Services portfolio for Ericsson in Ethiopia, Sudan, S. Sudan, Eswatini, Zambia, Uganda and Rwanda.

He has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University and MBA from Heriot-Watt University.

He is a graduate of the Swedish Institute Management Program for Africa on sustainability and an alumnus of Kings College Budo. 


JIMMY MUGERWA

Jimmy has over 27 years of senior business leadership with full profit & loss management in oil & gas across Africa and Europe; leading teams, managing complex projects, building relationships with senior political and government leaders and tapping into the networks with African opinion leaders

Until recently Jimmy was the Group Africa Advisor / Chair Uganda for Tullow Oil Plc in London and Managing director for Tullow Oil in Uganda for 8 years. Before this, he worked for over 19 years for Royal Dutch Shell in senior business leadership positions across several countries in Africa and Europe, including being the Senior regional advisor for Sub Saharan Africa; Shell Africa Retail Marketing manager; General Manager for Shell East Africa/ Country Chair for Kenya Shell; Retail Manager in Ghana.

Currently, Jimmy serves on various boards including being the Board Chair of the DFCU Bank Ltd, Non Executive Director on Diageo’s East African Breweries Ltd and Uganda Breweries Ltd as well as other non-profit organizations.

Previously Jimmy chaired the Presidential Investor Round Table for Oil & Gas for 4 years. He also served as the Vice Chair Board of trustees, Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.

Jimmy’s skillsets include being a passionate leader, keen on creating value and making a difference, as well as creating organisation and people success.  He has a strong background in Government relations as well as highly developed commercial skills. Sam has over 26 years of executive leadership and management comprising of experience garnered from executive positions with NC Bank, Stanbic Bank, Total Uganda and Uganda Revenue Authority. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCCA) and a Certified Public Accountant of Uganda.

He currently, serves as the Executive Director at I&M Bank Uganda.

His skillsets include among other things, strategy development and execution, stakeholder relationship and management, financial reporting, budgeting and planning, regulatory reporting, taxation and risk management.

Sam is team-oriented, and a good communicator with a willingness to consistently learn and expand his knowledge base.

Besides serving on NCBA Bank Board as an Executive Director, he also serves as a NED on the board of Sanyu Babies Home— Uganda’s first and oldest babies’ home.

MUSOKE HARRIET NABAKOOZA

Harriet is a banker and human capital expert with over twenty years of experience in the banking industry during which she has been at the forefront of HR strategic management in leading financial international institutions such as Standard Chartered Bank Uganda and dfcu Bank.

She began her illustrious banking career at the Bank of Boston in 1996 after graduating from Bentley College School of Business in 1995. She later joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1998 as a Manager, of Financial Institutions/Development Organizations and rose through the ranks to become Head Of Corporate Affairs and later Head of HR.

In January 2015, she joined dfcu Bank, one of Uganda’s top five banks as Head of Human Capital/ HR Head. One of her key achievements was the successful culture transformation and change management following the merger and acquisition of Crane Bank by dfcu Bank in 2016. 

Harriet is currently a board member of SANLAM General Insurance, Nation Media Group Uganda and Kakira Sugar Limited.

In her current position, she oversees the audit function across the bank’s 17-country operations. Her expertise, among others, covers risk management (internal controls, corporate governance and compliance) as well as Leadership and People Management.

In her role, she is a member of the country Exco.

She was between April 2009 a Vice President, Head Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities at Citibank Uganda Limited, before heading to Citibank Kenya as Vice President, Customer Sales and Derivatives Marketing, a role she served between June 2010 and June 2012.

She later joined Stanbic Bank Uganda in 2012 as Head, of Global Markets role till December 2017 when she got appointed, Head, Corporates and Investment Banking at Standard Bank, Namibia; a role she took up in January 2018.

Aida Mugisha is a certified chartered accountant and a seasoned risk management professional in the Banking Industry. Proficient in creating a wide range of financial solutions for individuals, corporations and sovereign entities. Since 2003, she has focused on assessing and arranging financing solutions for a wide range of clientele in both the commercial and development finance segments, over a diverse sector coverage including trade & commerce, oil & gas, aviation, infrastructure, agribusiness, real estate, education service etc.

Key skills include financial analysis, risk management, policy formulation and implementation (credit policies and procedures), portfolio management through monitoring and review, stakeholder management, negotiation, strategy formulation and implementation and effective communication.

Mrs. Mugisha is currently the Senior Credit Risk Analyst at Trade and Development Bank.

ROBINAH LUKWAGO

Chief Health Insurance and Social Protection Officer

Robinah is a human development specialist with background training in public health. She presently works as the Chief Health Insurance and Social Protection Officer at the African Development Bank Group since February 2022.

Before that, she worked as a Health Adviser at the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office where she led the delivery of the UK government’s central and bi-lateral health portfolio in Uganda. This involves working closely with the Government of Uganda, non-state actors and bi-lateral and multi-lateral Development Partners to improve health outcomes and wider human development.

She has also previously worked for the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; Norbrook Pharmaceuticals International; the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and the Government of Uganda’s Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala.

She has a profound understanding of the challenges of health systems and markets in Africa and the multi-sectoral dimensions that have an impact on health outcomes including Governance, Education, Social Protection, Economic Development and Gender.

She also has a special interest in strengthening health systems including at the community level to deliver results by engaging both the public and private sectors to foster the sustainability of investments in the health sector.

Robinah graduated from Makerere University, Kampala with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. She also obtained a Master of Public Health degree from the same University. She has also acquired several healthcare certifications and licenses from prestigious entities such as The University of Queensland, the World Health Organisation, the University of Edinburgh, the World Bank Group and the University of Liverpool.


CANDY WEKESA

Candy Wekesa Okoboi is Stanbic Bank’s Head of Legal Department since January 2019. Before that, she was the Head Legal and Company Secretary and oversaw the corporate governance portfolio at Uganda’s largest bank.  She has over 20 years of experience in legal practice, financial markets and consulting.

Candy started her legal career in November 2002 at Capital Markets Authority, Uganda for close to 4 years until August 2006. She then joined Uganda Securities Exchange in March 2010 as USE’s Head, Legal and Compliance. In June 2012 Candy Okoboi joined UAP Holdings Limited, Uganda’s second-largest insurer as its Deputy Group Company Secretary until January 2016.

Amongst other directorships, Candy sits on the Board of British American Tobacco Uganda Limited. She also served as Senior Legal Advisor (Business Licensing Reform Project) at the Uganda Investment Climate Program (under the support of the International Finance Corporation and World Bank Group). At a continental level, she has previously been a member of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism Country Review Missions for the Republic of Zambia and the United Republic of Tanzania.

ROSEMARY NANTAMBI

Rosemary Nantambi, Dip IEB is a senior pension and actuarial consultant who is a member of the Pensions Management Institute, UK.

She specialises in pensions and social security, and she has extensive knowledge of the insurance, investment, retirement, and pensions industry in Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom.

Her expertise includes pension system analysis including policy and institutional issues, assessment of macroeconomic implications, advising on investment strategy and administration of funded and unfunded schemes, advising on setting investment philosophies and risk analysis.

She has worked in many different regions, including Africa, the UK and the Caribbean. She is a member of the Society of Actuaries. She has worked with the Department of Health UK as a statistical officer, the Government Actuaries Department and with Alexander Forbes Uganda as the Head of the Financial Services Department.

Rosemary is a registered investment advisor with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda. She has also been an active member and a panelist with the East and Central African Social Security Association (ECASSA).

SAMUEL MWOGEZA

Samuel is a certified accountant and certified professional coach with over 17 years of working experience in the financial services sector; He currently works with Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, Uganda’s largest bank as Head Consumer and High Net-Worth Stanbic Bank Uganda. He was previously the bank’s- between 2015 and 2021. During this time, he was among others recognitions, recognised by the institution, as the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”). He was further recognized as the top CFO in Uganda at the Deloitte-ACCA awards in 2018 and the Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) of the Year 2019 by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

Besides Stanbic, he has worked with some of the largest global and regional banks out of the Africa office with experience gained at Citibank, Barclays Bank, and Standard Bank Limited, the parent bank for Stanbic. He has also gained leadership exposure in other markets with time spent in Zambia, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo while working for Citibank and Standard/Stanbic Bank respectively. He has been central to executing and managing change in organizations and supported and driven the successful execution of various complex projects within the organizations worked. He has also played a central and leading role in strategy formulation and execution.

Doris Akol, brings to Dentons, over 25 years of tax law expertise, most, if not all of it gained from Uganda Revenue Authority where she has worked for over two decades.

Doris has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, Public Administrator, African Tax Administration Adviser, and Public Policy and Governance Specialist.

Before being appointed to the IMF role, she was a Tax Partner at Kyagaba & Otatiina Advocates (Dentons Uganda).

For 24 years (May 1995- March 2020) she worked for the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), the government of Uganda’s tax revenue service rising to become its Commissioner General for 5 years and 5 months, between November 2014 and March 2020. Prior to this, she served as Commissioner in Charge of Legal Services and Board Affairs and Board Secretary in the same organization.

She has also served as a Council member of the African Tax Administrators Forum (ATAF) where she chaired the Governance and Organisational Committee for over two years.

Doris’ other work experience includes, working as a Tax and Legal Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers Uganda Office – responsible for providing company secretarial services and legal advice relating to tax, corporate, business, investment and commercial law to the practice’s clientele.

In the 5 years, she was Commissioner-General, Doris grew tax revenue by more than an 83percent from UGX9.9 trillion in FY2014/15 to UGX 16.6 trillion in FY 2018/19- cumulatively collecting UGX65 trillion. She also nearly doubled the tax register, growing it from 763,150 taxpayers to 1,487,354 at the end of FY2018/19.

As a result, Uganda’s Tax to GDP ratio increased from 12.84 per cent in FY 2014/15 to 15.11 per cent in FY 2018/19 above the NDPII target of 14.90 per cent.

Doris holds a Bachelor of Law from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from Uganda Management Institute. She also holds an MBA in Leadership Innovation and Change from York St. John University in the United Kingdom, as well as an LLM in International Business, majoring in Trade and Tax Law from McGill University in Canada. Mr. Vincent Timothy Budambula has over 21 years’ experience Chartered Accountant and Finance professional with experience in the economies of Kenya, Angola, Abu Dhabi (Dubai), South Africa, Rwanda and Uganda). This comprises experience gained in overseeing a USD 140m Carlyle portfolio company incorporated in Mauritius with operations across the East African region.

His experience crosscuts the industries of manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceutical, construction, agriculture and hospitality.

Currently, Vincent works as the Group CFO at Abacus Pharma Africa Ltd and also has previous work experience with entities including Pwani Oil Group (T/O USD 280M), Milbridge Holdings Group (T/O USD 700M – Group CFO overseeing Angola, South Africa, Abu Dhabi (Jebel Ali, Dubai) and Rwanda), Kenya Tea Development Agency (T/) USD 640M), Java House Group (USD 60M) and NAS Servair (T/O USD 180M).

Vincent holds a B.Com (Accounting) degree from the University of Nairobi and an MBA (Finance) from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Tumusiime Henry has over 15 years of experience as a Human Resource and Organisational Development professional with experience in various entities within Uganda.

His experience cross-cuts the manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceutical, government and FMCGs.

Currently, Henry works as the Group Chief Human Resource Officer (GCHRO) at Abacus Pharma Africa Ltd (A Carlyle Portfolio Company) and also has previous work experience with entities including Bidco Uganda (Wilmar JV International), Movit Products Limited, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Unilever East and Southern African (ESA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and REEV Consult International among others.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational and Social Psychology from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)-United Kingdom. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration (SWSA) with First Class Honours from Makerere University Kampala. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development (CIPD-UK), and he is also a full member of the Human Resource Managers’ Association of Uganda (HRMAU).

Henry has extensive experience in HR transformation through strategy reviews, Change Management, Talent Management, Balanced Scorecard and other Business and PMS systems, implementing organizational re-designs and Job Analysis and Evaluations and general Human Resource practice.

Ms. Nabisubi Renita Jacinta is an engineer and digital specialist with + 10 years of experience providing leadership in Digital Financial Services (DFS) across Uganda and Rwanda including +5yrs in executive positions with P&L responsibilities.

She holds a Master of Science (Methods for Management of Complex Systems) and qualifications in professional project management.

Her digital financial services experience includes leadership positions at Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR) and Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSDU) developing strategies to drive digital financial solutions and financial inclusion. Operations experience includes a leadership position at Alcatel Lucent managing regional programme office operations.

She is passionate about telling clients’ stories to ensure positive perception of image and reputation by their publics. She has vast knowledge and experience in stakeholder relations, media relations, internal communication and digital PR.

Presently, she is the Chief Executive Officer of Prim & King, a communications agency that she founded.

She has had exposure with renowned clients in both private and public sectors since 2001. Some of these include Stanbic Bank Uganda; MultiChoice Uganda; British Airways; Danish Embassy; Access Uganda Solar Limited; Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS); Rift Valley Railways (RVR); Qalaa Holdings (Egyptian). 


ALLEN SOPHIA ASIIMWE

Allen, is a Ugandan advocate and policy leader with over 20 years’ experience as a development advisor and practitioner. 

She is passionate about shaping Africa’s narrative on governance, trade, regional integration and development issues. She has designed and managed programmes She has designed and managed programmes for government agencies, private sector, civil society and donors across the African region (including in all East African Countries, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and DRC). 

Allen has served in the past as CEO of AVID Development, a regional consulting firm working on key issues of trade, development and governance in Africa. She has also worked as a consultant for (attached to the Managing Director) at the African Export Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK) in Cairo, Egypt supporting the implementation of the Intra Africa Trade Initiative- aimed at increasing trade among African countries. She has also worked previously in TMEA as the Uganda Country Director.

She holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School (Edward Mason Fellow, 2017) and a Masters in International Business Law from the University of Manchester, UK (1998).
