Jenifer Bamuturaki, has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda Airlines after serving in acting capacity for a number of months.
Jenifer also doubled as the Commercial Director for the carrier, a position she has held since April 2019.
A letter from the Works and Transport minister, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, addressed to the chairperson of the Uganda Airlines board indicates that the directive to appoint Bamuturaki came from President Yoweri Museveni.
The airline recently advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer on June 24th 2022 within the same week that Cornwell Muleya the airline’s former CEO had been arrested and charged by the Government for disobeying orders of the Inspectorate.
Bamuturaki has more than 10 years of experience in Aviation, Travel and Hospitality, having worked with startup airlines and hotels, carried out route research and development, recruitment’s, budgets, strategic planning, route launches, marketing and advertising campaigns for product launches.
Her predecessor, Cornwell Muleya was sent on forced leave in April of 2021 amidst accusations of causing financial loss to the airline. The Zambian aviation executive was later suspended in May 2021 alongside other officers who were jointly accused of improper conduct (abuse of office).
Muleya’s contract was terminated in February 2022, paving way for Jenifer Bamuturaki’s appointment in acting capacity as the airline’s CEO.
Before joining Uganda Airlines, Jenifer was the Director of Sales and Marketing at Golden Tulip Canaan Hotel, Kampala (June 2017 to April 2019), having joined from Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
At Sheraton, she was director of Sales and Marketing in charge of Planning and implementing sales, marketing and product development programs, both short and long range, targeted toward existing and new markets.
Before joining Sheraton, she was head of Sales & Marketing at Air Uganda from 2007 to 2014. She joined Air Uganda from East African Airlines where she served as Country Manager for Uganda from 2000 to 2003.
Jenifer holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration & Management and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work & Social Administration, all from Makerere University Kampala.
