Lake Victoria levels are going down, news that every property owner neighbouring the lake needs to hear.

The receding water levels were announced on Eskom Uganda LinkedIn page on July 27, 2021.

“The Lake Victoria water levels have gone down to 13.07 Meters as of 26th July 2021. Water spilling has been ongoing at Nalubaale and Kiira Power Plant with close monitoring by Eskom and Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM) under Ministry of Water and

Environment,” Eskom said.


“The water spilling has therefore reduced from 2,400 Cumecs to 2200 Cumecs. Directorate of Water guides on the amount of Water to be spilled,” it adds. 

Due to heavy rains during 2019-2020, the water levels in Lake Victoria rose to a new record level of 13.42 meters in May 2020, surpassing the 13.41-meter mark last recorded in 1964.

As a result, most structures surrounding the lake were submerged leading to massive damage.
