Raymond Qatahar Mujuni, popularly known as Qatahar Raymond, the award-winning Next Media Services (NBS Television) investigative reporter, news Anchor and columnist has been snapped up by regional multimedia giants, Nation Media Group (NMG), reportedly to head the election reporting desk.
An impeccable source told this reporter that Raymond is to be based at Ntv Uganda, but will spearhead reporting on Uganda’s forthcoming Presidential and parliamentary elections for NMG regional platforms.
NTV Uganda is Uganda’s No.1 Tv Station. Raymond broke his political reporting teeth here, 5 years ago, before being headhunted by NBS Television where he has been working for two years and five months now.
Writing on his twitter account, Raymond, wrote: “I cap my time at @nextmediaug (Next Media Services) with immense gratitude for the platform & colleagues I worked with. We’ve done 28 investigations, 11 of which I’ve been directly involved in. The impact is immense from changing national laws to rehabilitation of assets like Portbell, to the prosecution of accounting officers for corruption. I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with Next Media. Adios my friends, till the next!”
Tony Glencross, the Nation Media Uganda Managing Director, refused to directly comment and referred this reporter to Daniel Kalinaki, the General Manager, Editorial at NMG Uganda and the NTV Uganda Head of News, Josephine Karungi.
Kalinaki declined to respond, saying he was in a meeting and would get back later while Karungi was unavailable by press time.
Just in time: Uganda goes to polls
Raymond re-joins NTV Uganda at a time Uganda heads to polls, in a country where political reporting dominates and drives news consumption.
Uganda’s road to the 2020-21 elections is well underway with the cleaning, display, gazetting and publishing of the National Voters Register as well as polling stations is underway. News programmes in Uganda are the most watched with 7pm -10pm being the peak watching zone for television in Uganda.
Nomination of Candidates for Local Governments and Special Interest Groups; Parliamentary and Presidential are expected to take place July 24th, August 13th and August 21st respectively. Presidential campaigns are expected to kick off on Tuesday September 1st 2020 and close on Friday January 8th 2021. Campaigns for Local Government& Special Interest Groups as well as Parliamentary shall kick off on July 30th and August 17th respectively and shall close on the same day as presidential polls.
Uganda will go to polls to elect her president as well as Local Government representatives, Members of Parliament and special interest groups between January 11th 2021 to February 9th 2021.
Although NTV Uganda remains Uganda’s No.1 source of news, – Geopoll’s Q1, 2019 Media Measurement Report rated NTV Tonight, NTV Uganda’s 9 O’clock news bulletin as Uganda’s most watched news, NBS Television has made serious gains in the last 2-3 years on the back of staff editorial staff poaching from NTV Uganda.

Who is Raymond Mujuni?
The Bachelors of Law graduate from Makerere University started work for NTV Uganda in his S6 vacation as a freelancer. He formally got hired as an investigative Reporter while still at school, between October 2015-October 2017 before joining NBS Television in November 2017 as a Senior Investigations Reporter & Anchor
