A track record of growth, transformation, and operational performance
Commenting on the appointment, Farid Fezoua, President and CEO, GE Africa said, “We are excited to have Nyimpini join us with a track record of growth, transformation, and operational performance. These are key ingredients to support our businesses for growth, local talent development, and risk management across Southern Africa.”
Nyimpini holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science, a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management, and an MBA from the University of Cape Town.
“His successes have been underpinned by his talent in people leadership, business turnaround, stakeholder management, digital disruption, execution excellence, and building strong brands,” further read the GE media statement.

“I am privileged and excited to take on this challenge to drive GE’s business in Southern Africa, building into its 120 plus years of impact on the continent. I’m looking forward to working across our businesses in Power, Healthcare, Renewable Energy, and Aviation to create value for our countries, customers and people, as we rise to the challenge of building a world that works,” Nyimpini Mabunda said.
Nyimpini Mabunda who was once Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) Managing Director between September 2013 and 31st July 2016 is remembered for driving UBL’s market resurgence, notably, a 6 percent growth in UBL’s beer market share- from 37 percent to 43 percent.
This, he did through a deeper market distribution drive across all market segments as well as product innovations such as the rebranding of Uganda Waragi into its current new sleek bottle, as well as the creation of its popular variant- Uganda Waragi Coconut. He also re-launched Uganda Waragi and Bond 7 into easy-to-carry sachets.
Matter of fact, during his time, he quadrupled- to 8 percent, the contribution of innovations to UBL’s bottom line by the end of the financial year 2015. It is also during Mabunda’s tenure that UBL’s whiskey offerings came to full life with initiatives such as the opening of the ‘House of Walker’, the first luxury brand outlet of its kind in Uganda. The maverick Nyimpini also introduced the signature whiskey tasting dinners such as the Symphony in Blue, which celebrates the epitome of luxury with UBL’s reserve range including Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
In the beer market, he launched Senator Stout and the phenomenally successful Ngule beer- both lower-end-of the market beers, that have continued to contribute significantly in the beer segment.
