Female candidate once again performed better compared to their male counterparts in the March 2022 examinations taking 53.7% as compared to the 46.3%. In addition, out of the 21 top candidates, 11 were female.
The Chairperson of the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) CPA Geoffrey Byamugisha made the revelation at the release of the examinations event organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) at Skyz Hotel, Naguru on Friday, 1 April 2022.
“The March Examinations were held in Kampala for CPA students only. Whereas 3,081 students registered to sit these examinations, 2,890 turned up representing 93.8 percent as compared to 94.1 percent in 2022”, CPA Byamugisha said.
He also noted an improvement in the average pass rate of 39.6% compared to 36.4% in March 2021.
However, the Board also noted poor performance in Financial Management, Management Decisions & Control, Advanced Financial Reporting and Public Sector Accounting and Reporting. The poor performance according to the Board is due to failure of the students to interpretation and analysis questions as required in a professional accountancy examination.
“Candidates need to improve their interpretation, computation, communication and analytical skills in levels 2 & 3,” CPA Byamugisha said.
He advised students to prepare well in time for the examinations, including undertaking practical trial questions to appreciate the scenarios while doing the actual examinations. The March examinations diet was introduced as a strategy to help students to recover the lost time because of the COVID-19 disruption.
