East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Group Human Resources Director Ednah Otieno has been appointed Human Resources Director for Diageo in Great Britain. Otieno becomes the first Kenyan appointed to the role and will take office on 1st July 2021.
At EABL, she is credited with delivering outstanding performance and inspiration, creating a strong succession pipeline, embedding a continuous learning culture and enabling self-directed learning.
Edna is an experienced Group Human Resources Director with a demonstrated history of working in the wine and spirits industry. Skilled in Negotiation, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Personnel Management, Organizational Development, and Strategy. Strong human resources professional with a Master’s degree focused in Strategy from Strathmore Business School (SBS).
Edna started her career as a graduate trainee at East African Breweries Limited in 2003, where she grew through the ranks and went on to be HR advisor, then Head Reward East Africa. She left the company after 9 years in 2012 after serving as Head Reward and Shared Services East Africa.
She served as Head of Reward Africa for Diageo (2013-2014). She briefly went in to the telecom sector as Head of Reward, Organisation Design and Organisation Effectiveness (2014-2015) for Airtel Africa, then Head of People and Organisation East Africa at Mars before rejoining East Africa Breweries in 2017 as Group Human Resources Director.
Otieno holds a Master’s Degree in Strategy from Strathmore Business School and a Bachelor’s in Economics and Business from Kenyatta University.
