Doris Akol Doris has extensive experience rendering tax and business advisory services

Former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General Doris Akol has been appointed Technical Assistance Advisor at the International Monetary Fund.

In a congratulatory message, former Kampala Capital City Authority executive Director Jennifer Musisi tweeted: “Congratulations to one of Africas most brilliant tax administrators and legal professionals on your ascension to Technical Assistance Advisor International Monetary Fund @DDorisAkol they’ve grabbed a gem!”

Over the course of her career, Akol has held various positions in public office as well as in the private sector. She possesses over two decades of experience in taxation policy and administration, corporate governance, public procurement processes, and public sector administration.

In the private sector, Doris has extensive experience rendering tax and business advisory services in areas such as climate change and environmental policy and management.

After her graduation from the Law Development Centre in 1994, she spent one year at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In 1995, she joined URA, as a Legal Officer. From 2012 until 2014, Doris Akol was the Commissioner for Legal Affairs and Board Matters at the Uganda Revenue Authority. In that capacity, she also served as the Company’s Legal Secretary. In October 2014, she was appointed Commissioner general at URA. She assumed office on 30 October 2014. On 29 March 2020, Akol left URA and John Musinguzi Rujoki was named as her replacement.

Last year, she joined Dentons, an international law firm as a Tax Partner. Dentons was the first international law firm in Africa with the establishment of Dentons Cairo in 1964. It has over 200 lawyers in 13 locations across Africa, including Uganda.

Akol holds the degree of Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, a postgraduate Diploma in Law Practice from the Law Development Centre, in Kampala. She also holds a Diploma in Financial Management from the Uganda Management Institute. She holds the degree of Master of Laws from Makerere University. Her second degree of Master of Laws was obtained from McGill University in Canada.

She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators 

In September 2018, Akol received the African Women in Leadership Award in recognition of her leadership qualities and achievements.

In March 2018, she received the 2018 Person of the Year Public Excellence Award, from African Leadership Magazine, in recognition of her leadership’s contribution to growth and development
