Accountants in Uganda, through the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAU), have recognized the efforts made by Prof. Patrick Ogwang of Mbarara University of Science and Technology for his efforts in the fight against COVID-19. The inventor of COVIDEX, a natural herbal supportive treatment in management of viral infections was awarded the COVID Lifeline Award. This award was introduced to recognize individuals and organisations that responded to the challenges brought about by the pandemic with resilience and efforts in supporting livelihoods.
Next Media Services, through its Finance Team, won the other COVID Lifeline Award for their dedication and commitment to the goals of the organisation during such challenging times, focusing on not only survival but also the future of the organization.
Prof. Twaha Kaawaase, the Buganda Deputy Katikkiro, and a seasoned professional accountant for over 34 years was awarded the Gold service award. This is the highest honour awarded to an individual who has mentored professional accountants, advanced the profession locally and internationally through professional, and community service as well as the academia. Professor Twaha Kaawaase is the managing partner at Sejjaaka Kaawaase & Co. Certified Public Accountants and a Lecturer at Makerere University Business School.
Other winners include CPA Cosmas Ssenyonga from Retirements Benefits Fund, the Young Accountant of the Year. Ssenyonga was awarded for his insightful and great influence of positive change in the retirement benefits sector.
CPA Kalinda Gonzaga emerged the CPA of the Year, Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Uganda – Finance Team of the Year, Springs Tugye and Associates LLP won the Accounting Firm of the Year Award.
The Accountancy Service Awards are premium annual awards of excellence aimed at recognising persons or entities that have made outstanding contribution to the advancement of the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond. The awards recognize professionals for their excellence, commitment and resilience in service.
