Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) chairman Everest Kayondo has joined the number of Ugandans succumbing to the deadly Covid-19.

Kayondo died today at Lifeline International Hospital in Zana, Kampala where he had been admitted with Covid-19 symptoms, KACITA chief executive officer Abel Mwesigye said.

“He died this afternoon at Lifeline International Hospital in Zana. He was admitted on Saturday after testing positive with Covid-19,” Mr Mwesigye said.

Kayondo’s death comes two days after Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) executive director Gideon Badagawa also reportedly succumbed to the virus.

Badagawa passed away on Monday at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he had been receiving treatment along with his wife.

Kayondo was a teacher-turned businessman. He was a financial specialist and an advocate of Kampala city traders as chairman KACITA. He also reportedly had interests in the travel and tourism industry.

His business journey is said to have started in a small stall in Masaka market where he sold things like toothpaste, shoe polish to plastic cups, and other products.

He graduated to a lock-up shop and later moved to a spacious premises in Masaka Town coming to Kampala in 1995.
