Philip Besiimire is the CEO, Vodacom Tanzania, a role he has held since October 2022. In his own words, he is committed to “Meeting the needs of my employees, customers, shareholders, community, and the law!” and goes by a #5Words Mantra: Have impact and enable businesses!

Before his role at Vodacom, Philip has served at MTN, growing through the ranks in different countries from Senior Manager Consumer Marketing in Uganda in 2007 to Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer MTN Swaziland from 2010 to 2012 where he was tasked with delivering shareholder value including ensuring financial and human capital return, positioning in the market place and adding economic value to the business within the social, political and economic context of Swaziland and within the MTN Group.

From 2012 to 2013, he was appointed Chief Marketing Officer MTN Zambia before moving on to be CEO MTN South Sudan from 2023 to 2017

In Zambia, he was in charge of developing and executing a clearly defined marketing and communications strategy in a manner that supports consistent business growth and enhances brand equity and awareness. Ensure achievement of MTN Zambia’s objectives of sales, growth, profitability and visibility while ensuring a consistent marketing message and position consistent with MTN Group strategic direction.

From 2017 to 2022, Philip moved to the MTN South Africa, first as Executive Regional Operations in City of Johannesburg before being appointed Chief Officer: Sales Distribution and regional Operations in Johannesburg Metropolitan Area.

His overall responsibility her was one of driving implementation of overall strategy through a defined Regional, Sales & Distribution strategy that achieves MTN SA’s growth ambitions – including channel mix strategy, channel footprint, share of own shops vs. indirect channels and in-shop service strategy.
