Centenary Bank in partnership with the Rotary Club of Uganda and Crown Beverages has handed over a Ushs 1.5 billion Cancer Center to St Francis Hospital Nsambya. The new facility has a capacity of 36 beds for in-patients and is the 2nd of its kind in Uganda.
The idea was conceived by Past District Governor (PDG) Stephen Mwanje in 2011 as a response to the cancer scourge. He then mobilized other Rotarians who used their networks to raise the required funds.
The facility is expected to go a long way in decongesting the cancer centre at Mulago Hospital therefore improving healthcare for patients.
Speaking during the unveiling event at the hospital today, Mwanje said, “We thank the people that hatched this dream years ago, the people who had the courage to start it and the partners who had the belief to support it. The dream has become a reality. Cancer is one of the biggest health concerns in Uganda today. This center will be a major milestone in the fight against it.
