Ahead of the “The Journey to CIO” inaugural boot camp that starts on 24th January 2024, Peter Kahiigi, the Centenary Technology Services Ltd (Cente-Tech) Chief Technology Officer, has been unveiled as the second speaker.

Also speaking at the boot camp is  Dr. Rita Kabatunzi, currently, the Company Secretary, Stanbic Holdings Limited.  She will be speaking about understanding board dynamics as an integral part of the journey of CIOs upwards.

The Journey to CIO is a mentoring initiative aimed at “growing the pool of highly effective CIOs at home”, according to Elijah Kitaka, the brain behind the idea.

Elijah Kitaka is a tech executive and musicpreneur. He built and runs, Fezah, a pay-per-view platform and talent agency in the entertainment industry, as well as Songboost, a data infrastructure startup that brings real-time analytics to radio and TV. Songboost helps, musicians, managers, and labels to track music airplay across Africa with data from over 300 radio and TV stations and therefore be able to commercialise their work via until recently elusive offline royalties.

He has also previously worked for Barclays Bank Uganda (now Absa Bank Uganda), Google, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Stanbic Bank.

“The goal is to build a pipeline of highly effective CIOs that can reach ready-now status by the end of 2024. Essentially, a pool of talent out of which we can confidently recommend if a CIO need comes our way,” Kitaka told CEO East Africa Magazine in an earlier interview.

The initiative will kick off with one in-person boot camp on 24th January 2024, followed by an optional quarterly online check-in session for the subsequent 3 quarters.

The range required for one to be an effective CIO in Public and then Private Sector is not trivial,” remarked Kitaka, adding: “Peter’s experience as a former CIO at National Social Security Fund, Director at the National IT Authority, and now CTO at Centenary Technology Services make him the perfect person to speak about building that range.”
