Are you one of those people who still prefers walking to the bank to make a transaction over the counter?
Think again.
On average- according to independent and government studies, it takes one (1) hour to travel to the city from many of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) neighbourhoods and another one (1) hour back. A 2012 study by the Ministry of Works and Transport titled: Average travel time & vehicle cost in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA), established averagely, a passenger using public means spends UGX4,876 on a trip to the city centre- UGX 2,563 to move from the city centre and UGX2,313 back home.
For private motorists, the same study established that each kilometre travelled costs UGX256. Therefore, a round trip to your bank from, for example Kireka, one of the neighbourhoods to Kampala, a distance of 11 kilometres could cost you up to UGX7,680; plus of course the two hours. If you multiply that by the number of times you go to the banking hall to transact, in a month and in a year, then you get an idea of how costly, in time and money, traditional banking is.

Yet, in just one trip, you could walk into any nearby KCB Bank branch and ask to be signed onto iBANK, the bank’s internet banking platform. If you are an existing KCB Bank customer, this can forever change the way you bank- not just in time and money, but also safely and conveniently. For new customers, after opening the account, you have to separately apply for internet banking at no cost, to enjoy the service.
“KCB Bank’s Internet Banking Platform, sometimes called I-Bank is a web banking platform that makes it possible for our customers to make multiple electronic transactions online,” explains Diana Komukama, the KCB Bank Uganda, Manager Marketing and Communications.
Doreen Rutazaana, the Manager Transaction Banking at KCB Bank Uganda further emphasised that enhanced security is at the centre of KCB Bank Uganda’s digital direction. “With our Internet banking platform, your Organization is able to make safer and faster transfers. Komukama says that other than flexibility and convenience, KCB’s iBANK gives customers, control over their finances. “The platform is highly secure and can be accessed from the comfort of your office, home and even while on holiday. Once you sign up, you do not need to visit any branch for simple financial transactions.”
“iBANK is just a cog in the larger basket of financial solutions available at KCB Bank. We invite you to be part of East Africa’s biggest bank, so we can simplify your world to enable your progress,” she said.
