Asmahaney Saad (above) wins the award less than a year after taking up the position of Managing Partner early this year

The 9th Annual African Legal Awards have named Asmahaney Saad, Managing Partner of KTA Advocates, as Partner of the Year- Small Practice Category (firms with less than ten Partners). The prestigious award has come less than a year after taking up the position of Managing Partner early this year.

The African Legal Awards which were held in-person for the first time in two years at Houghton Hotel Johannesburg on 2nd September 2022 are intended to honour exceptional members of the legal community in Africa.

The 20-person panel, which was made up of highly regarded professionals, considered factors such as initiative, leadership abilities, legal expertise, client interactions, and commitment to the community at large. With over 500 submissions spanning across 20 African countries, Asmahaney came out on top and only Ugandan in this category.

Other notable awards presented at the ceremony included among others, Africa Law Firm of the Year (small and large practice), International Law Firm of the year, Legal Department of the Year (small and large team), Private Practice Rising Star Award and Innovation Award.  

The honour is a testament to Asmahaney’s commitment to leading the firm with a clear vision and strategy. Her goal is to institutionalise the firm into a regional practice, with its employees and clients at the heart of the business. Other areas that made Asmahaney stand out were her commitment to mentorship and service in the positions of leadership she holds in her wider community. In addition to being Managing Partner KTA, Asmahaney holds the position of Head of the Corporate, Commercial and Projects department of KTA Advocates with over 14 years’ experience in niche Corporate Advisory in Oil and Gas, Projects and Corporate Governance. She also serves as, a Non-Executive Director of United Bank for Africa Uganda (UBAU), a committee member on the first ever appointed Investment Advisory Committee (IAC) that advises the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development on the Petroleum Revenue Investment Reserve Fund, Board member Iman Africa Energy and Multigate Uganda Limited. She is also a mentor with Girls for Girls Uganda (G4G) and a Rotarian.
