Absa Group Completes Renaming of 12 African Subsidiaries; nears complete separation from Barclays

LEFT-RIGHT: Nadin Byarugaba, Acting Board Chairperson, Absa Bank Uganda, Nazim Mahmood, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda and Swithin Munywantwali, Board member, Absa Group receive the license to operate and trade in Uganda as Absa Bank Uganda Limited from Dr. Louis Kasekende, then Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda. Absa Uganda, formerly known as Barclays Bank Uganda, completed the name changeover on November 11th 2019, marking the start of a new era for the bank’s operations. As of today, all of Absa Group Limited’s Barclays-branded subsidiaries in seven African countries - Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Tanzania and Zambia have been renamed as ‘Absa’ completing the name change across the continent.
