Anne Mugisha is the Communicator, Programs Manager & Chief Information Support Management at United Nations – UNSOS
“Ten years today! How did that happen? Yup! It is my ten-year anniversary with the United Nations. Longest gig I ever held. I guess I am going to stay until I retire. Thanks to everyone who held my hand on this journey and also those who tried to trip me – you all kept me focused,” Anne wrote on her LinkedIn profile this June as she marked a decade-long career stint at the United Nations.
Anne Mugisha is an Advocate, Communicator, Program Manager and Public Affairs Analyst who is currently based in Nairobi Kenya she is attached to the United Nations Support Office in Somalia.
Anne joined the United Nations in 2012, starting out at the UN’s Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) as Deputy Chief in charge of Public Information, a role she served in until June 2013 for a period of 13 months.
In June 2013, she was promoted to Spokesperson for eight months. Here, she was responsible for communicating the mission’s position internally and externally and handling media correspondences among other PR and media duties this she did until January of 2014.
United Nations took note of Anne’s distinguished career performance and rewarded her with a job upgrade to Chief, Information Support Management in which capacity she is currently serving. Her duties have positioned her mostly in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Before her deployment by UN to the horn of Africa, Anne was based in Uganda, practicing law in Kampala as an Advocate at Rwakafuuzi & Co. Advocates for a one year-period from June 2011 until July 2012.
Mugisha has also served as a Deputy Secretary, in charge of International Affairs, for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) for one year. As an executive member of a major opposition political party her responsibilities included political analysis, identifying and monitoring political trends and emerging issues.
In October 2006 to December 2009, for 3 years and 3 months she was in a Team Leader at American Express based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the United States of America (USA).
“At American Express Card Company I transitioned from a customer care professional to a managerial position in a very competitive industry after completing a comprehensive 12 months leadership path program studying. I led a team of customer service and sales professionals transitioning new trainees through a team building process to form a strong sales and customer service team. I managed low performers in an Enrichment Team environment and improved the process of driving their number using a variety of training and coaching techniques,” she reveals on her LinkedIn page.
Anne Mugisha has also worked as a Program Associate at the Women’s Learning Partnership from October 2004 to October 2006 she mentored women on training projects for women’s leadership in Africa, Asia and Middle East using IT and online tools to impact lives of countless women within that 2-year duration in Bethesda, in the United States where she collectively spent a decent amount of time in both career and pursuing her studies.
Anne Mugisha started her career in January 1994 in New York, USA as a Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the United Nations in New York City until September 1995 for close to tow years.
She flew back to Uganda in September 1995 after securing a government job in the Ministry of Finance as the Information Officer. This lasted for over 3 years until December of 1998 during which time she worked on a World Bank project and led strategic communications and advocacy for the privatization and reform program in Uganda.
Her stay in Kampala was extended a little longer from January 1999 to November 2000 when she became the Director at Global Events Management a company she established to manage large conventions and meetings.

In February 2002 after flying back to the United States, in Washington DC, she landed a job as the Executive Director at RESPOND Uganda for half a year until July of 2002. While still in Washington DC, Anne was awarded a fellowship at the National Endowment for Democracy Reagan – Fascell Fellow this lasted 8 months.
“I was awarded a Fellowship for my work in democracy activism and used the time to research and write on US foreign policy on democracy promotion in emerging democracies of Africa. I interacted with policy makers on Capitol Hill and DC Think Tanks, collected data from relevant websites and compiled a report on democracy spending by the US government in Africa,” Anne testifies on her LinkedIn profile.
EDUCATION BACKGROUND
Anne Mugisha holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) Laws from Makerere University attained in 1986, she also has a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Business/Trade/Commerce attained from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) that she undertook from 1987-1988.
She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Management from University of Florida (2003-2005). Her other certifications include; Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, in July 1991 she was issued a United Latino Students Association certificate. Anne has also volunteered in many roles and is a founding member of a political organization that advocated for the return of multiparty politics in Uganda.
