The World Human Resource Development (HRD) Congress, a global not for profit movement of human resource professionals dedicated to creating better workplaces, has named, a Ugandan, Dr. Peter Kimbowa amongst its “101 Most Fabulous Global Coaching Leaders.”
The list, according to Dr. R L Bhatia the World HRD Congress founder, is a “tribute of showcasing leaders of the world who set a big example for transformation and change.”
In a letter to Dr. Kimbowa, communicating the award, Dr. R.L Bhatia, said that the “101 Most Fabulous Global Coaching Leaders is a reflection of your professional achievement and our belief that you are a thought leader in coaching and a contributor of value.”
The awardees were identified after an international research process that among others included peer reviews by country HR professionals to produce a shortlist of individuals that were then adjudged by a jury comprising of senior global HR professionals. The jury was headed by Professor Indira Parikh, an ex-Dean of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.
“You are one of the most respected coaching leaders in the industry and therefore much sought after. Your contribution to the field of coaching is worth mentioning and I personally agree with many HR Leaders who have recommended your name that your iconic status deserves the recognition. You have been a nurturer of talent and you have trained several youngsters to come up in their profession and to contribute to the field of coaching,” Bhatia, further said of Dr. Kimbowa.
Popularly known amongst peers and contemporaries as PK, Dr. Kimbowa is the Founder and Team leader of CEO Summit – a private sector Think Tank in Uganda that seeks to accelerate the economic growth of the country by focusing on 9 key areas namely: financial services, agriculture, human capital development, ICT, tourism, transport infrastructure, energy/power, water resources, and health services.
He is also the Founder and Team leader of the CEO Apprenticeship Program (CAP) jointly conducted with Strathmore Business School in Kenya and the University of Cape Town.
Since 2013, the programme has registered 155 graduates, 50% of whom have risen to Exco level while more than 12% are CEOs. The 2020 cohort currently has 25 business leaders.
Some of those who have gone through the programme and have gone on to become key business leaders, include Selestino Babungi; Managing Director at Umeme, Julius Kakeeto; Managing Director Post Bank, Michael Mugabi; Managing Director Housing Finance Bank and Dennis Kibukamusoke, the Managing Director Top Finance Bank.
Others are Twinemanzi Tumubweine the Executive Director, Bank Supervision at Bank of Uganda, Patrick Michael Ayota; the NSSF Deputy Managing Director, Peace Kabunga; Executive Director Housing Finance Bank, Bernard Robinson Magulu: Executive Director at Bank of Africa and William Ssekabembe; Executive Director, dfcu Bank. Robert Jagwe; Executive Director at Citibank Uganda and Mwanje Stevens, the CFO at National Social Security Fund are also CAP alumni.
Dr. Kimbowa holds a Ph.D. from the Commonwealth University, London Graduate School as well as an MBA (Strategy) from Maastricht / ESAMI. He is a Certified Coach of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and a Certified member-American Management Association and Harvard Business Review Association.
In 2009, his company, IFE Consultants, received the Gold Category Award of the International Arch of Europe for Quality and Excellence Gold, from Business Initiative Directions, a Madrid, Spain based quality organisation.
