President Yoweri Museveni and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta have committed to jointly construct the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu and Malaba. This was confirmed in a meeting at the Nairobi State House, also attended by Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto.

A statement, released yesterday, following Museveni’s official visit to Kenya noted that the two leaders agreed on working jointly on taking the SGR line from Naivasha to Kisumu and onwards to Malaba on the border with Uganda. The line to Kisumu will also serve Uganda through Lake Victoria ports of Jinja, Masaka and Entebbe.
