Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in conjunction with United Bank of Africa (UBA) have today unveiled an Online and Point of Sale (POS) tax payment system. This is in a bid to make it easy for tax payers to fulfil their tax obligations. The system will allow tax payers to register a payment on URA’s portal and complete the payment on UBA’s portal. It will also allow use of any VISA or MasterCard irrespective of the bank that issued the card and will provide real time access to government services paid for including court bails, passports, traffic fines and so on.

Speaking at the launch event this afternoon, URA Commissioner General Doris Akol said, “The introduction of re-engineered business procedures and eTax has greatly enhanced voluntary tax payer compliance. Most tax payers can access URA services online. This has reduced turnaround times and increased the number of tax transactions for services such as tax payer registration, payment of taxes and other non-tax revenues through banks, mobile money, POS and online payments and the ability to ensure all tax payers registered submit declarations.
