Movit Products Limited has attained sustainability compliance certification under the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), reinforcing its commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices across its operations.

The certification affirms the company’s alignment with globally recognised principles in the areas of environmental stewardship, social impact, labour standards, and corporate governance, positioning Movit among a growing number of African manufacturers integrating sustainability into their long-term business strategies.

The recognition was received by Bernard Ouma, Chief Commercial Officer – Southern Markets, on behalf of the company.

Embedding Sustainability into Operations

The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, guiding companies to operate in line with ten principles covering human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.

For Movit, the certification reflects a structured effort to integrate these principles across its value chain—from sourcing and manufacturing to distribution and stakeholder engagement.

This approach suggests a shift beyond viewing sustainability as a compliance requirement, toward treating it as a core operational and strategic priority.

Strengthening Governance, Environment, and Social Impact

According to a statement by the company, certification reinforces Movit’s commitment to three critical pillars at the core of sustainable business practice. It underscores the company’s focus on environmental responsibility through more deliberate management of resource use, waste, and the broader impact of its production processes.

It also highlights a strong emphasis on social responsibility, reflected in efforts to support employee welfare and contribute meaningfully to community development. Equally important is governance, where the certification affirms Movit’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across its operations. By aligning with these principles, the company not only strengthens its internal systems but also responds proactively to the rising expectations of regulators, consumers, and business partners.

A deliberate commitment to operating responsibly

Movit’s Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Simpson Birungi, framed the certification as part of a broader commitment to building a responsible and enduring business.

“This certification reflects our deliberate commitment to operating responsibly across every part of our business. We recognise that long-term growth must be anchored in strong governance, respect for people, and responsible environmental practices.”

He emphasised that sustainability is becoming increasingly central to how the company defines success.

“At Movit, our purpose is to enhance everyday living. That purpose goes beyond the products we make—it includes how we impact communities, how we treat our people, and how we manage our environmental footprint.”

Birungi also noted the strategic importance of aligning with global standards.

“As we expand across the region, aligning with internationally recognised sustainability frameworks strengthens our credibility and ensures we remain competitive in markets that increasingly prioritise responsible business practices.”
