Kampala Parents has retained its spot as one of Uganda’s best performing schools in the just released Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
174 pupils (76%) passed in first grade out of 228, while 54 passed in second grade. This is nearly 8 times better than the national average- only 10.1% of pupils passed in Division 1.
15 pupils scored aggregate four (4); 16 with aggregate 5, while 22 scored aggregate 6.
This is a continuation of the school’s good performance- in 2018, all of 234 pupils passed in first grade, while in 2017, out of the 274 pupils sitting for PLE, 274 passed in first grade and the rest second grade.
Kampala Parents School is one of the Ruparelia Group education services that also include: Kampala International School, Delhi Public School International and Victoria University.
National Performance- more girls completing Primary 7 than boys
A total of 695,804 candidates from 13,475 centres (schools) registered for PLE in 2019. Of this number 473,893 (68.2%) were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, and 221,912 (31.8%) of the candidates were Non-UPE.
This represents a 3.6% increase in candidature and is above the 5-year average increase of 2.4%.
For a fifth year in a row, there were more girls completing primary school than boys- 336,040 (48.3%) boys compared to 359,764 (51.7%) girls in 2019. However, proportionally boys performed better than girls at the upper grades, and with a lower failure rate. 11.9% of boys passed in Division 1 compared to 8.5% for females and in grade 2, there were 48.4% of boys compared to 44.6% for girls.

The Board registered 1,315 learners with special needs of various categories. The blind, the deaf, the physically handicapped and the dyslexics among others. Of these, 49.3% are females and 50.7% are males.
Daphne Katto, the school’s principal was elated at the performance and thanked parents, teachers, the pupils and the school proprietors for the combined effort.
“In 2019, we registered a remarkable increase in the number of pupils passing with aggregate 4 from four pupils in 2018 to fifteen in 2019, she said, adding that admissions at the school were still ongoing.
“We still have room from pre-primary to Primary 6,” she said.
