Eng. Judith Nayiga is Manager Planning and Investments at the Electricity Regulatory Authority, heading the Planning and Investment Unit under the Technical Regulation Department, a position she has held since 2019.

She has over 15 years of experience in the Electricity Supply Industry having worked with various entities across the electricity supply chain including; Eskom Uganda Limited, Umeme Limited and presently, the Electricity Regulatory Authority where she has served for the past 8 years.

In her 15-year service to the Electricity Supply Industry, Eng. Nayiga has steered the Industry’s planning through providing expertise in the designing of electrical networks, and guided investments across the Electricity Supply chain. Her role has supported the evacuation of various new electricity generation plants through designing and optimizing evacuation and interconnection lines, recommending of investments that have seen the increase in the reach of transmission and distribution grids as well as impact on electricity access and demand growth.

She can also be credited for effectively contributing to loss reduction technical strategies with technical losses reducing from 15% in 2012 to the current 10% in the distribution network; and reliability of supply improvement while ensuring efficiency and grid stability. She has developed various codes and regulations to guide project planning, implementation, monitoring and verification to ensure timely delivery of projects and value for money.

Eng. Nayiga represents ERA on various committees such as the System Planning and Coordination Committee (SPCC) which coordinates various sector players to ensure harmony in planning for the Industry and also addressing sector constraints, the National Electro-Technical Committee and Technical Committee that review standards at UNBS which have drafted and reviewed numerous standards including pole standards and distribution construction standards.

She holds a /M.Sc. Electrical Power Systems from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, a B.Sc. degree (Hons) in Electrical Engineering majoring in Power systems from Makerere University Kampala, and a Diploma in Energy Efficiency and Planning from Sweden. She is also fully trained in project management, utility regulation, leadership and management as well as other technical aspects.

In the region, she represents the Authority on the EAC energy group, Eastern Africa Power Pool activities and the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program, and supervises the progress of the regional interconnectors. She is a fully registered professional Engineer with Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and a Corporate Member of the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers (UIPE).

In addition to her inspiring resume, Eng. Nayiga is married and a proud mother of five.
