Edna Kanabahita

Edna Kanabahita is the Chief Risk Officer of Absa Bank Uganda Limited. A versatile all-rounded banker with an exemplary proven track record in Enterprise-wide risk management, she also serves on the Board of the Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) and Transcultural Psychosocial Organisation (TPO).

Prior to this, she was the Africa Regional Risk Project Director at Accion International based in Accra, Ghana, Head of Credit, Head of Risk Management, Head of Strategy and Innovation, Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking with Stanbic Bank Uganda and Development Finance Bank respectively.

She participated in conducting due diligence and strategic partnership collaboration assessments for the acquisition of Meridian Bank Tanzania and Uganda Commercial Bank in Stanbic Bank and was involved in the establishment of the Bank of China collaboration desk in dfcu Bank. Conducted a Southern Sudan Fact Finding Mission and due diligence activities for Musoni DTM Ltd – Kenya, K- Rep Bank Ltd – Kenya; Ekondo Microfinance Bank Limited – Calabar, Nigeria; MicroSen Bank – Senegal and Ugafode Microfinance Bank – Uganda. Offered risk management technical services to Accion Microfinance Bank – Lagos, Nigeria; Akiba Commercial Bank – Tanzania; EcoBank Accion Microfinance Bank – Cameroon. In addition, conducted risk management awareness training programs across Africa in the Microfinance Industry sponsored by J.P. Morgan.

Edna is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from The Project Management Institute (PMI) and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, an Advanced Diploma in Financial Management (Dip FM) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), an advanced Diploma in Bank Credit and Risk Management from Damelin School of Banking (South Africa) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Economics and Statistics from Makerere University.
